Rejuvenation Clinic of Sauk Prairie is one of the first clinics in the Madison, Wisconsin, area to offer EMSCULPT, a revolutionary body sculpting treatment that reduces fat as well as builds and tones muscles in the abdomen, buttocks, arms, thighs and calves for both men and women.
This treatment is FDA cleared and uses HIFEM® (High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic) technology to achieve powerful supramaximal muscle contractions. A single, 30-minute treatment can replicate the equivalent of 20,000 squats or crunches at the gym. When the muscle tissue is exposed to these types of contractions, the entire internal structure adapts, resulting in fat reduction and muscle toning.

Benefits of EMSCULPT
- Both safety and efficacy of this procedure have been tested in seven multi-center studies by the most reputable scientific methods, including CT, US, MRI and Histology. Findings have shown a 19% average fat reduction, a four-centimeter average loss in waistline circumference and more than 16% increase in average muscle mass.
- Treatment length is around 30 minutes and is ideal for busy schedules. Treatment varies based on your goals, but is usually around four sessions, spaced two to three days apart.
- EMSCULPT is a non-invasive procedure with minimal downtime following treatment. Patients may feel some muscle soreness, similar to what you would experience after exercise.
- Most patients can detect results directly after treatment, with the most effective results reported two to four weeks following the last session. Recent studies show a 96% average overall patient satisfaction!
- Under FDA clearance, the abdomen, buttocks, thighs, arms and calves can be treated with EMSCULPT.

1. What Is EMSCULPT?
EMSCULPT is a non-surgical FDA-cleared body toning procedure that helps those looking to strengthen and build muscles in the abdomen, buttocks, thighs, arms and calves. What makes it so extraordinary is that it requires minimal downtime after the process and can be completed in a handful of short sessions, with longer lasting results than most other options. It’s also the only device of it’s kind that actively tones and builds muscles.
EMSCULPT body contouring is still a relatively new procedure, having just hit the market in 2018, but it already has notable distinctions to its name. Perhaps the most memorable of these distinctions is that it’s the first energy device cleared by the FDA to burn away fat and build up natural muscle mass, representing a huge leap forward in technology.
How does this process work? The secret is in the name. The E and M in EMSCULPT stand for “electromagnet,” which is the driving force behind this cutting-edge technology. The EMSCULPT device uses electromagnetic energy leading to supramaximal contractions to target specific muscle groups such as the abdominals or the buttocks. This energy makes the muscles contract, much in the same way your muscles naturally contract when you’re lifting weights or doing crunches. However, EMSCULPT creates a much larger, stronger contraction for a sustained amount of time. Also, you don’t need to worry about upper abs, lower abs, or side abs as in traditional workouts – EMSCULPT treats them all at once!
This machine helps our body and our muscles work much more efficiently than they ever could under ordinary circumstances. For example, think about how many abdominal crunches you’re capable of performing in a typical half-hour session at the gym. Everyone will likely arrive at a different number, but it’s unlikely that anyone can match the electromagnetic energy of the machine. This device helps our muscles contract in a way that’s equivalent to performing 20,000 crunches or squats in just a half-hour. At the same time it helps reduce local fat deposits since the muscle contractions cause elevated levels of free fatty acids leading to fat cell death. Fat cell death is considered a near-permanent result because we don’t grow new fat cells after adolescence. If we gain weight, the cells get plumper rather than multiply.
What are the results of this on the body? Imagine what would happen if you started exercising at such a superhuman rate at the gym. Your body would begin to adapt, and your muscles would strengthen while the fat was reduced. The same is true when you participate in EMSCULPT, just at a more effective and faster scale.
2. How Does EMSCULPT Compare to Other Methods of Fat Reduction such as CoolSculpting and Liposuction?
EMSCULPT is one of the first of it’s kind on the market when it comes to muscle toning. While there are other options, depending on what your goals are – it’s likely a great fit for defining your abs and buttocks. It also is minimally invasive and requires little downtime.
While CoolSculpting is also non-invasive, it’s intended more for spot treatment of fat reduction by freezing away fat and offers less muscle toning capabilities.
Liposuction is a surgical procedure designed to target large areas of fat that aren’t responsive to diet or exercise. However, the treatment is also more invasive and involves more downtime after the procedure.
3. What Are People Saying About EMSCULPT?
The EMSCULPT reviews are in, and the reactions are overwhelmingly positive. EMSCULPT boasts a 96% patient satisfaction rate, with patients praising the results and loving the way their muscles felt after their treatments. If you’re debating treatment because you’re wondering, “Does EMSCULPT work?”, the results speak for themselves.
Both safety and efficacy of this procedure have been tested in seven multi-center studies by the most reputable scientific methods, including CT, US, MRI and Histology. Findings have shown a 19% average fat reduction, a four-centimeter average loss in waistline circumference and a more than 16% increase in average muscle mass.
4. Who Is a Good Candidate for EMSCULPT?
How can you know if you’re a good candidate for EMSCULPT? The ideal EMSCULPT candidate is already relatively fit but is looking for that extra level of definition or strength. It works equally well for both men and women as well as different fitness levels. It can be an excellent choice for athletes recovering from injuries who are looking to quickly regain strength in certain areas. We’ve also heard of avid golfers who’ve improved their game significantly after EMSCULPT because of their increased core strength!
5. Who is not a candidate for EMSCULPT?
People with any type of metal implant such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, orthopedic plates and screws or artificial joints will be unable to try EMSCULPT. Similar to an MRI, a large magnet is the basis behind EMSCULPT which is why metal in the body can be a problem. It’s also not prescribed for pregnant or nursing women, people with recent surgical procedures (muscle contraction may disrupt the healing) or anyone who has a history of muscle issues such as complicated hernias. It’s also contraindicated for anyone with a metallic or copper IUD.
Those who have a high percentage of generalized body fat may be better served by looking into other treatment methods. This is something typically decided on a case-by-case basis. If you aren’t sure if you are a candidate, we are happy to perform a consultation to discuss your options and settle on a plan and treatment that’s best for you.
6. How Many EMSCULPT Sessions Do I Need?
While you should begin to see results as soon as you’ve received one EMSCULPT treatment, you’ll need more than one session to complete the full procedure. Individual sessions last roughly 30 minutes for each muscle group that you’re targeting. So if you want to treat both your abdominals and your buttocks, you would receive two 30-minute sessions. To get the best and most lasting results, we recommend receiving four treatments per muscle group, all received over a period of two or three weeks.
After these initial four treatments, we will work with you to determine an ongoing plan as needed based on your individual results.
7. What Results Can I Expect After EMSCULPT?
After receiving EMSCULPT, individuals can expect the treated area to become leaner, with more pronounced muscle definition. These results will likely be noticeable in the days immediately following the procedure. As the body continues to adapt, and the muscles adjust to the equivalent of a very long and strenuous workout, the results will multiply. In most cases, you’ll notice the muscles grow more defined in the 2-4 weeks following your most recent procedure.
In terms of ongoing results, fat cells are reduced in areas such as the abdomen due to the release of free fatty acids following an EMSCULPT treatment leading to longer results. Ongoing maintenance usually requires less treatments than the initial round.
8. How Long Do the Results of EMSCULPT Last?
How long the results of EMSCULPT last will depend on the individual. Some people may be inspired by their results. They may choose to continue working out regularly and eating well for years after their initial treatments have ended. In cases like these, the results will often last as long as the patient chooses to maintain them. Often the treatment itself can motivate a healthier lifestyle. Similar to CoolSculpting, many people like to continue to improve their bodies after the treatment. EMSCULPT inspires them to work out more frequently and become stronger overall.
While increased muscle mass is not permanent, most people see results that last 6-12 months. Studies performed on HIFEM technology have shown muscle hypertrophy lasting at least one year. Typical maintenance recommendations, after the initial four sessions, are 1-2 times a year. There’s no harm in doing more treatments. People with high fitness goals have even bought maintenance packages of four per year or quarterly treatments.
9. Is There Any Downtime After the Procedures?
One of the fantastic things about EMSCULPT is that, unlike other more invasive procedures such as liposuction or a Brazilian butt lift, there is very little downtime. Most patients can usually resume normal day to day activities immediately after the procedure.
10. Are There Any Side Effects of EMSCULPT?
After an EMSCULPT treatment, the targeted muscle group has essentially just experienced an intense workout. Because of this, you may notice some muscle soreness. Luckily, there’s a phase during the EMSCULPT treatment that breaks up the lactic acid produced from these intense contractions so the soreness you might feel is quite mild. You may experience some fatigue in the days following treatment, as your muscles adapt but most people have a sense of tightness and improved strength even after the first treatment!
11. What Does EMSCULPT Feel Like?
The process is very simple. The contractions produced by EMSCULPT are often described as a pulling, tugging or tightening sensation with most people tolerate quite well. The procedure is not typically reported as painful but more as “weird”. Many people report that after the treatment, it feels like they’ve had an intense workout of those specific muscles.
12. Is EMSCULPT Safe?
EMSCULPT is quite safe. BTL is the company that developed EMSCULPT and they have been diligent in its research and development over the past seven years. It’s efficacy and safety have been tested in 7 multi-center and 13 peer-reviewed studies. Over 60,000 EMSCULPT treatments have been performed in the U.S. since it’s launch in January of 2018. This is unique in that many other companies are jumping on the muscle-building bandwagon, frequently without significant testing or studies. One new device arriving on the market this year even announced its presence prior to being FDA-cleared.
EMSCULPT is FDA-cleared for the abdomen, buttocks, arms, thighs and calves for both men and women. It’s the world’s first non-invasive toning device.
13. Do I Need to Do Anything Special to Prepare for EMSCULPT?
There are no requirements that you’ll need to follow leading up to your sessions. The areas being treated need to be free of clothing or metal of any kind so it’s good to be prepared to disrobe and remove all jewelry. We can even provide disposable shorts if desired and plenty of draping with sheets and blankets.
14. Can EMSCULPT help with abdominal muscle separation after pregnancy (diastasis recti)?
Yes, EMSCULPT is one of the first non-surgical methods to improve diastasis recti. Clinical Studies have shown an 11% reduction in diastasis recti after as few as 4 treatments.
15. Is EMSCULPT similar to TENS?
TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) devices are usually used to treat pain, and produce small amounts of battery-powered electrical energy to contract muscles.
EMSCULPT is much more powerful and the energy produced is measured in Tesla, often used in relation to MRI imaging as a measurement of magnetic induction. As a result EMSCULPT can stimulate supramaximal muscle contractions and is much more powerful than a TENS device.
16. Can I combine other body sculpting treatments with EMSCULPT?
Yes, EMSCULPT and other aesthetic body treatments pair very well together. In fact, EMSCULPT would be an excellent adjunct to any body fat reduction procedure such as liposuction or CoolSculpting, as these do not address the muscles.
