Juvederm is the #1 selling dermal filler in the U.S. and was FDA-approved in 2006 for reducing and softening facial wrinkles and folds and volumizing lips. It’s been used successfully in millions of treatments worldwide. Juvederm reduces the appearance of wrinkles by filling in or plumping up the skin, and helps to eliminate visible signs of aging with very little downtime or discomfort.
Juvederm is a synthetic product made of hyaluronic acid (HA), a natural substance in your body that delivers nutrients, adds volume, nourishes and hydrates the skin. As we age, the body’s ability to produce HA and other “youthful” substances diminish, since aging cells don’t regenerate as readily as they used to.
The first visible signs of aging often appear on your skin — especially the face and neck. Due to reduced amounts of HA in your skin, you’ll notice your skin becoming drier, with wrinkles and folds appearing around the mouth and nose area.
Hyaluronic fillers such as Juvederm have an excellent safety profile and have been used in cosmetic procedures for over 20 years. These fillers are temporary, often lasting anywhere from 6-24 months*, however, receiving repeat injections of Juvederm fillers may lead to prolonged, cumulative benefits. People often notice that their skin looks more refreshed, brighter and smoother even as the product is wearing off.
Prior to treatment, the skin is numbed with topical anesthetic and cleansed in sterile fashion. Juvederm products are expertly injected into the skin with a fine needle or by using the blunt-tip cannula method. Juvederm products also contain a mild anesthetic (lidocaine) which allows further numbing of the skin and a comfortable treatment. The treatment takes less than 30 minutes and may result in some mild swelling or bruising. Most patients find that the downtime with any injectable treatment is minimal, averaging around 48 hours* and able to be covered up with make-up if necessary.
Juvederm XC-Ultra and Ultra Plus
As one of the first fillers in the collection of Juvederm products, Juvederm XC (Ultra Plus) was FDA-approved for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds, which are often called parentheses or smile lines. These lines develop as a result of aging, illness, weight loss, genetics and volume loss in the cheeks and upper face. Juvederm XC (Ultra Plus) has been proven to last up to one year but many people experience a need for less product with each injection session, suggesting that some positive benefits are much longer lasting.
Juvederm XC (Ultra) is also approved for injection into the lips and mouth area. Juvederm XC (Ultra) is very effective for enhancing thin or receding lips and can add shape and contour. Results of Juvederm XC (Ultra) for lips can last up to nine months before touch-up injections may be needed.
Many factors contribute to a youthful-looking face. One factor, in particular, is a full and lifted cheek structure. As we age, the cheeks start to lose volume and shape while descending south. This leads to a sunken appearance around the eyes, flattening of the cheeks as well as wrinkles and folds around the mouth. Unfortunately, cosmetics and skin care products do nothing to make cheeks seem fuller.
In 2013, Juvederm Voluma became the first and only dermal filler FDA-approved to correct volume loss in the midface for up to 2 years. Using a patented VYCROSS® technology, Juvederm Voluma contains an efficiently and tightly cross-linked hyaluronic acid gel, which contributes to its lift capacity and duration.
Juvederm Voluma injections will lift and contour cheeks in both men and women to help create a more youthful appearance. The results* are usually instantaneous, natural-looking and long-lasting.
Many people are bothered by unattractive lines and wrinkles around the lips. Smoking, UV/sun exposure and general aging contribute to this stubborn problem. Volbella, another Juvederm VYCROSS® filler, was especially created to address fine, whispery lines around the lips due to its soft, smooth gel consistency. Results are natural-looking and proven to last up to 1 year.
Most recently approved in March 2017, Juvederm Vollure was created using the same VYCROSS® technology in order to fill in or lift the folds around the mouth. Juvederm Vollure has been proven to last up to 18 months making this filler the longest lasting HA filler for this area. People are pleased to report an immediate improvement in their nasolabial folds with very little swelling or downtime.
