We no longer offer Artefill as a dermal filler treatment since the development of longer-lasting hyaluronic acid fillers (Restylane Lyft, Juvederm Voluma). In our opinion, hyaluronic acid fillers have a better safety profile with less risk of side effects and give the same results as other permanent/semi-permanent fillers. If you are unsure which dermal filler or other treatment is best for your needs, please feel free to contact us for a free consultation.
What are dermal fillers and how can they help the appearance of skin aging?
As we age, there are several factors that change the appearance of our face and skin. Gravity, volume loss, sun and environmental damage all play a role in the aging process and the appearance of fine and deep lines in our face. In our youth, we enjoyed a full, heart or oval shaped face with excellent bone structure and plump youthful skin. Starting in our 30’s, there is a gradual loss of several building blocks to our skin including bone, collagen and hyaluronic acid. By the time we are age 50, years of volume loss and skin aging have “caught up”. Many people describe frustrating problems such as dark under-eye circles, flat cheeks, folds around the nose and mouth, and a sagging jawline. Where we once had a youthful heart shaped face, we now often have a heavy, square lower face and depleted volume around the temples, eyes, and cheeks.
Dermal fillers are natural, gel-like substances that are injected with a fine needle under the surface of the skin. The injections deliver small amounts of volume which can help to plump up the skin, smooth out lines, wrinkles and folds as well as fill in volume-depleted areas for most patients. These minimally-invasive injections can restore many of the natural structures of the youthful face resulting in a natural, soft and younger appearance in most cases.
Dermal filler treatment is performed in the medical office after topical numbing cream has been applied for at least 15 minutes. During the procedure, ice is used to help alleviate any sensitivity or swelling. Dermal fillers are routinely prepared with lidocaine unless lidocaine-allergy is present so further numbing occurs as soon as the treatment begins. The entire treatment usually takes less than 30 minutes* with most patients being able to return to normal activity following treatment.
The technique of the injector is significantly more important than the type of filler used and our clinician, Michelle, utilizes multiple advanced techniques learned from leading plastic surgeons. She is considered a “master-injector” with many patients traveling across the country to have her perform filler treatments. Because of her talents, Rejuvenation Clinic is able to provide a variety of injectable products with some options lasting 3-5+ years! Michelle also trained and became an expert in delivering dermal filler without multiple needle sticks. This “needle-free” injection uses a blunt-tip cannula method which allows for more precise, minimally-painful treatments with little to no bruising or swelling.
All of the dermal fillers used at Rejuvenation Clinic are FDA-approved in the U.S. and have excellent safety profiles. Determining the right filler for the right area is important along with understanding your goals of short or long-term correction. Michelle takes as much time as needed to explain the different options and what would be best for you.
