Blunt-Tip Cannula Method

Blunt-Tip Cannula

A cannula (from Latin “little reed”) is a tube that can be inserted into the body, often for the delivery or removal of fluid. In Aesthetic Medicine, a Blunt-tip Microcannula (also called smooth tip microcannula, blunt-tipped cannula or simply blunt needle) is a small tube, with an edge that is not sharp, designed for less traumatic injections of fillers such as Artefill, Juvederm, Perlane and Restylane.

Because the blunt-tip cannula is not sharp, the risk of bruising is significantly reduced. The cannula finds the path of least resistance through the tissues, avoiding capillaries and blood vessels that otherwise (with sharp needle injection) could be punctured, causing bruising and swelling. There is always a chance for a small bruise to occur at the cannula’s point of entry, however, this is rare and most people describe minimal downtime and very little pain associated with the treatment.*

Our clinician, Michelle, is skilled in the blunt-tip cannula method, providing patients with the safest possible injections. Rejuvenation Clinic of Sauk Prairie prides itself on staying current with the latest technology and safest techniques.
